Tonerikiekkoja, a Finnish term, translates to "toner discs" in English. This refers to circular or disc-shaped forms of toner powder, commonly found in laser printers and photocopiers. Toner is a fine powder composed of carbon black, polymers, and coloring agents, used to create an image on paper. When a printer or copier generates an image, the toner is attracted to specific areas of a photoreceptor drum through electrostatic charges. Subsequently, the toner is transferred to the paper and fused to its surface using heat and pressure.
The disc shape of toner is a result of the manufacturing process. Toner particles are often created
