The tokay gecko, scientifically known as Gekko gecko, is a species of gecko native to Southeast Asia and parts of India. It is one of the largest gecko species, typically growing to between 10 and 18 inches in length. Tokays are known for their distinctive appearance, featuring a grey or bluish-green body covered in vibrant orange and red spots. They have a robust build with a broad head and large eyes. Their toes are equipped with specialized pads that allow them to climb vertical surfaces with ease.

These geckos are primarily nocturnal and arboreal, spending their days in tree hollows, rock crevices, or under bark, and becoming active at night to hunt. Their diet consists mainly of insects, but larger individuals may also consume small vertebrates. Tokays are renowned for their loud vocalizations, often described as a series of sharp, barking sounds, which they use for territorial defense and mating calls. Despite their sometimes intimidating appearance and loud calls, they are generally not aggressive towards humans unless threatened or handled. In some cultures, the tokay gecko is considered a good luck charm.
