Terawattscale is a term used to describe processes, systems, or analyses in which power levels are on the order of one terawatt (10^12 watts). It is a qualitative descriptor rather than a formal unit, commonly used in energy planning, climate science, and high-power physics to convey the scale of energy flow that a given technology or scenario would involve.

The terawatt scale is large enough to require extensive infrastructure for generation, transmission, and storage when interpreted as sustained average power. Globally, human activities presently consume roughly tens of terawatts in continuous power terms, with regional and sectoral variations.

In practice, terawattscale can refer to two distinct notions: a sustained average power on the order of terawatts, such as total global electricity demand, or a peak instantaneous power in terawatts, typical of certain high-power laboratory facilities and pulsed lasers that produce trillions of watts for very short durations.
