teemasta

Teemasta is a Finnish grammatical form, the elative case of the noun teema, meaning theme or topic. It is used to express origin or source in addition to indicating the subject matter of discourse, analysis, or writing. In practice, teemasta most often appears in contexts where the speaker or writer is referring to the topic under discussion.

In usage, teemasta commonly follows verbs of discourse such as puhua (to talk about) or kirjoittaa (to write about). It can also appear in noun phrases to indicate the topic of a work or discussion, for example in esseeni teemasta (my essay about the theme) or keskustelun teemasta (the topic of the discussion). The elative form helps to set focus on a particular subject and can be combined with qualifiers to express dependence or relevance to the topic, such as teemasta riippuen (depending on the topic).

Relation to other cases is important in Finnish grammar. The elative suffix -sta/-stä contrasts with the genitive -n or -en forms, which express possession or other relationships.
