Tandutrymmet refers to the space between teeth. This space can vary in size and is influenced by several factors, including tooth size, jaw structure, and the presence or absence of teeth. In a healthy dentition, the teeth are typically positioned close together, with minimal or no visible gaps. However, certain conditions can lead to increased or reduced tandutrymmet.

Increased tandutrymmet, often referred to as spacing or diastema, can be caused by a variety of reasons. This might include disproportionately small teeth, an abnormally large jaw, or the absence of certain teeth, such as a missing lateral incisor. The frenum, a band of tissue that connects the lip to the gum, can also contribute to spacing if it is unusually large or attaches too low on the gums, creating a gap, particularly between the upper front teeth. Conversely, reduced tandutrymmet or overcrowding occurs when there is insufficient space for the teeth to align properly within the jaw.
