Tanahtetapi is a rural administrative village located in the southwestern part of Indonesia’s Java island. Administratively it falls within the jurisdiction of the Central Lampung Regency, and is part of the Jambangan district. The village covers an area of approximately 12 square kilometres and is bordered by the Setingguh River to the east and the coastal plain of Lampung to the west. Its elevation averages 350 metres above sea level, providing a mild tropical climate that supports a diversified agricultural base.

According to the 2010 national census, Tanahtetapi had a population of roughly 4,500 residents. The population is predominantly Javanese and Muslim, with local customs reflecting a blend of indigenous traditions and Islamic practices. The community is organised into several neighbourhood units (kelurahan), each overseen by a village head (ketua desa) who coordinates development projects, dispute resolution, and community events.

The village’s economy centers on agriculture, with paddy, maize, and coconut plantations constituting the primary sources of livelihood. Small-scale fishing and local handicrafts, particularly batik textiles, also contribute to the local economy. In recent years, initiatives to promote eco‑tourism have focused on the surrounding riverine ecosystems and traditional village architecture, providing supplementary income for residents.

Tanahtetapi also hosts a modest primary school and a health clinic, which serve not only local residents but students and patients from neighbouring villages. Transportation links to the regency seat are maintained by a network of feeder roads, though public transport services remain limited. The village celebrates an annual harvest festival that showcases Javanese dance, music, and communal meals, reinforcing social cohesion and cultural heritage within the community.
