Tagaktiven is a German term used to describe organisms or behaviors that are active during daylight hours. In biology and ecology, it corresponds to the English word diurnal and is used to differentiate daytime activity from nocturnal or crepuscular patterns.

The term is formed from Tag (day) and aktiv (active). In usage it functions as an adjective, for example in phrases like tagaktive Arten or tagaktive Tiere, and can also appear in noun phrases such as die Tagaktiven, though more common terms are Tagaktive or diurnale Arten. Tagaktiven describes patterns in behavior, physiology, and ecology that are closely linked to circadian rhythms and environmental factors like light and temperature, as well as predator–prey interactions.

Examples and scope: Birds are predominantly diurnal, as are many primates and other mammals such as elephants. Many insects, including bees and butterflies, are also diurnal.
