Tööhõivemustrite, or employment patterns, refer to the ways in which people participate in the labor market and how this participation varies across groups, regions, and over time. The concept covers not only who is employed or unemployed, but also the nature of their work—hours, contract type, sector, and job stability—as well as transitions between different employment statuses. It is a descriptive framework used to understand how labour supply responds to economic, social, and policy changes.

Researchers study tööhõivemustrite using data from labour force surveys, administrative employment records, censuses, and international statistics (for example Eurostat and OECD). Common indicators include the employment rate, unemployment rate, and labor force participation rate, along with measures of underemployment, job tenure, part-time versus full-time work, and shifts between sectors or occupations. Patterns are analyzed by demographic factors such as age, gender, education, and region, as well as by macroeconomic conditions and policy environments.

Patterns often observed include higher participation with increased education, gender gaps in certain regions or sectors, urban–rural differences, and cyclical changes tied to economic growth. Structural shifts, such as a move from agriculture to services or the rise of flexible and self‑employed forms of work, also shape tööhõivemustrite.
