Süddeutsche is a German term that most often refers to two related uses in the German-speaking world: as a geographic designation for southern Germany (das Süddeutsche) or a person from that region (ein Süddeutscher). It is also the name of one of Germany’s largest daily newspapers, Süddeutsche Zeitung (SZ). Founded in Munich in 1946 after World War II, the SZ is published by the Süddeutsche Zeitung GmbH and is widely regarded as a leading source of national and international news, analysis, and cultural reporting.
