síklencsés

Síklencsés is a Hungarian adjective used in optics to describe an optical element that has at least one plane (flat) surface. The term is built from sík, meaning flat or plane, and lencse, meaning lens. In Hungarian technical writing, síklencsés lencse typically refers to what is commonly called a plano lens in English, most often a plano-convex or plano-concave lens, i.e., a lens with one flat face and one curved face.

In practice, síklencsés lenses are used in a variety of imaging and light-handling applications, including cameras, projectors, laser systems, and precision instruments. The flat surface provides a convenient reference plane for mounting and alignment, while the curved surface determines the lens’s focal properties. Depending on the design, síklencsés lenses can be manufactured with spherical or aspherical curved surfaces to optimize aberration control.

Manufacturing and properties: síklencsés lenses are produced by grinding and polishing a plane surface on one side and shaping the opposite surface to the desired curvature. Coatings may be applied to the optical surfaces to minimize reflections and transmission losses. The choice of material (glass, IR materials, etc.) and coating depends on the intended wavelength range and application.

Limitations and design notes: plano-type configurations can introduce certain aberrations if not used with proper orientation and mounting. The exact performance depends on the relative positioning of the flat and curved surfaces with respect to the optical axis and detector plane.
