Sztirobutadén is the Hungarian term for styrene–butadiene copolymer, a synthetic rubber used extensively in industrial and consumer products. The material is produced by free‑radical copolymerisation of styrene and butadiene monomers, typically in a slurry or emulsion reaction. The ratio of styrene to butadiene can be varied to adjust the mechanical properties; common formulations range from 30 % to 70 % styrene. The copolymer can be processed as a latex, melt, or solid film.

Because of its good abrasion resistance, tensile strength and flexibility over a broad temperature range, sztirobutadén is used in tire tread compounds, automobile parts, conveyor belts, vibration dampers, electrical insulation, and sporting goods. It is also blended with natural rubber or other synthetic rubbers to tailor hardness, durability, and weatherability.

From an environmental perspective, styrene–butadiene rubber contains volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and can release small amounts of styrene, a potential carcinogen, during manufacturing and end‑use. Recycling of SBR is possible but often limited because of contamination and blending with other materials. Disposal typically involves incineration or landfilling under controlled conditions to limit hazardous emissions.

Safety handling guidelines for sztirobutadén recommend the use of closed‑system production, adequate ventilation, and the wearing of personal protective equipment to minimise exposure to monomers and by‑products. In the workplace, dust from cured SBR can cause irritation of skin and respiratory tract; therefore gloves and respirators are advised. Overall, sztirobutadén remains a widely applied elastomer owing to its versatile balance of strength, flexibility, and chemical resistance.
