Széndioxidvízb, also known as carbonated water or sparkling water, is water into which dissolved carbon dioxide gas has been forced under pressure. This process creates bubbles, giving the water its characteristic fizz and slightly acidic taste.

The carbonation process is achieved by dissolving carbon dioxide (CO2) in water under pressure. When the pressure is released, the CO2 escapes from the solution, forming bubbles. This can occur naturally in some mineral springs or be artificially induced.

Artificial carbonation is commonly done by injecting CO2 gas into filtered water. The resulting beverage can be served plain or flavored with various fruit extracts, sweeteners, and other additives. Some commercially available sparkling waters also contain dissolved minerals like sodium bicarbonate, magnesium sulfate, and potassium bicarbonate, which can contribute to their taste and mouthfeel.

Carbonated water is a popular beverage worldwide, consumed on its own or as a mixer in cocktails. It is often perceived as a healthier alternative to sugary soft drinks due to its lack of calories and sugar, unless sweeteners are added. While generally considered safe, excessive consumption of highly acidic carbonated beverages might, in some individuals, contribute to dental enamel erosion over time.
