Synovitida refers to inflammation of the synovium, the membrane that lines the inside of joint capsules. This synovial membrane produces synovial fluid, which lubricates the joints, reducing friction and allowing for smooth movement. When the synovium becomes inflamed, it can lead to increased production of synovial fluid, swelling within the joint, pain, and stiffness.

The causes of synovitida are varied and can include infectious agents, autoimmune disorders, and mechanical irritation. Infections, such as bacterial or viral infections, can directly invade the synovium. Autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis and lupus involve the body's immune system mistakenly attacking its own tissues, including the synovium. Mechanical factors, such as repetitive strain from certain activities or trauma to the joint, can also trigger inflammation.

Symptoms of synovitida typically include joint pain, swelling, warmth, and reduced range of motion. The affected joint may feel stiff, particularly after periods of rest. Diagnosis often involves a physical examination, medical history, and imaging techniques such as X-rays, ultrasound, or MRI. In some cases, joint fluid analysis may be performed to identify the underlying cause.

Treatment for synovitida aims to reduce inflammation, alleviate pain, and address the underlying cause. This may include rest, ice, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), physical therapy, and in cases of infection, antibiotics. For autoimmune causes, specific medications to suppress the immune system are often prescribed. Severe or persistent cases may require surgical intervention, such as arthroscopy to remove inflamed tissue.
