Synonymm is a term used in some linguistic discussions to describe a specific kind of word pair that shares a core semantic content but is not fully interchangeable in all contexts. Unlike a true synonym, a synonymm is characterized by systematic constraints on usage, such that selecting one member of the pair can alter register, tone, or collocational behavior.

The word synonymm is a neologism formed by adding an extra letter to the familiar term synonym to signal deviation from exact interchangeability. It has appeared in niche theoretical writings and certain digital lexicography projects since the early 2010s, but it is not part of mainstream linguistic theory.

Key features of synonymms include a: shared core meaning with another word; b: non-interchangeability in at least some contexts (for example, in formal versus informal registers, or in certain collocations); c: predictable differences in connotation and pragmatics; and d: potential cross-linguistic or cross-dialect relevance when mapping near-synonyms that do not align perfectly across varieties. Examples illustrate the concept rather than establish standard truth. "Cheap" and "inexpensive" are near-synonyms, but "cheap" can carry a negative connotation.
