Surkatalyserte is a hypothetical class of catalytic materials proposed in theoretical discussions of surface-activated catalysis. The term denotes solids in which active metal centers are densely distributed on a conductive, porous support, enabling cooperative multi-site activation of substrates at a single catalyst surface.

Commonly described as metal nanoparticles (such as palladium, platinum, or nickel) anchored on nitrogen-doped carbon or similar porous matrices; the support stabilizes nanoparticles and facilitates electron transfer during turnover. The materials are envisioned with tunable metal loading, particle size, and oxidation state of the metal.

In silico models and speculative literature outline routes to surkatalyserte synthesis, including atomic-precision deposition, chemical vapor deposition, or post-synthetic grafting, followed by mild reduction to generate active sites; real-world realization would require control over dispersion and strong metal-support interactions.

Catalytic cycles involve adsorbate binding on adjacent active sites, concerted electron transfer with the support, and rapid product desorption; predicted to exhibit high turnover frequencies and low activation energies due to cooperative effects; stability under reaction conditions depends on support resilience and metal–support interactions.

Proposed applications include selective hydrogenation, oxidation, and electrochemical transformations, particularly where multi-electron processes benefit from site cooperativity. As of now, surkatalyserte remains a theoretical construct used to illustrate design principles rather than an experimentally demonstrated material.
