Standards and test methods from ISO, ANSI/ASME, and related industry documents guide tolerances and acceptance criteria. Visual inspection complements instrumental measurement.

Applications span automotive, aerospace, electronics, medical devices, and consumer goods, where surface finishing supports longevity, performance, and appearance. Design considerations include selecting a finishing method compatible with base material chemistry, geometry, dimensional limits, and cost. Post-finishing care, such as cleaning or sealant application, can further extend surface performance.
