The acronym Suihteiksi represents the Finnish words "istuvapaa ja kiertävä energia" (sustainable energy). Its mission is to mobilize young Finns to participate in policy advocacy, community projects, and educational campaigns related to climate action, renewable energy, and circular economy practices.

The organization was founded by a group of university students from the University of Helsinki who were inspired by the successes of global youth climate movements. Since its inception, Suihteiksi has expanded nationally, establishing chapters in major cities such as Tampere, Turku, and Oulu. The group currently reports an active membership of approximately 4,000 individuals, with another 12,000 participants engaging in its online forums and events.

Suihteiksi organizes a variety of activities including fundraising for solar panel installations in schools, workshops on plastic reduction for local communities, and policy briefings presented to city councils. In 2021, the organization hosted Finland’s largest youth environmental conference, drawing over 3,000 attendees and featuring keynote speeches by prominent climate scientists.

The organization’s volunteer structure emphasizes skill development, with members receiving training in public speaking, data analysis, and digital media. Suihteiksi publishes an annual sustainability report that outlines its achievements and outlines strategies for the next year. The report is used by local governments to assess community engagement outcomes. It also runs a scholarship program for high school students who publish research on renewable energy solutions.
