sudoxicam

Sudoxicam is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that belongs to the oxicam class. Like other oxicams, sudoxicam is believed to exert its analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects primarily through inhibition of cyclooxygenase enzymes, resulting in reduced synthesis of prostaglandins.

Historically, sudoxicam was developed and marketed in some countries for the treatment of mild-to-moderate pain and inflammatory conditions such as arthritis. However, its use never became widespread, and safety concerns emerged over time.

Adverse effects associated with sudoxicam are similar to those of other NSAIDs and can include gastrointestinal irritation, dyspepsia, ulcers, and bleeding. Renal effects and fluid retention may occur, particularly in patients with existing kidney impairment or in those taking other nephrotoxic drugs. Rare but serious reactions, including hepatotoxicity, hypersensitivity, and skin reactions, have been reported and contributed to its decline in use. Pharmacokinetic information for sudoxicam is limited in modern summaries; like many NSAIDs, it is absorbed after oral administration, extensively metabolized in the liver, and excreted chiefly by the kidneys. Its elimination half-life is longer than some other NSAIDs in the class, influencing dosing schedules in historical practice.
