subpubický

Subpubický, in English often rendered as subpubic, is an anatomical term used to describe structures located beneath the pubic bone. The word derives from Latin sub- meaning under and pubicus meaning of the pubis. In anatomical usage the term denotes the region immediately inferior to the pubic symphysis and the lower portions of the pubic bones, including surrounding soft tissues of the anterior pelvis and perineum.

In humans the subpubic region lies just below the pelvic inlet and near the floor of the pelvis. It encompasses soft tissues of the anterior pelvic floor and the perineal area, and is anatomically related to landmarks such as the pubic symphysis and the ischiopubic rami. The term is most often encountered in descriptive anatomy and anthropological contexts rather than in routine clinical language.

A commonly discussed aspect is the subpubic angle, the angle formed by the inferior borders of the pubic rami (the pubic arch). The angle tends to be wider in females and narrower in males, a pattern used in forensic anthropology to aid sex estimation from skeletal remains. While population variability exists, typical male subpubic angles are around 50–60 degrees and female angles around 70–85 degrees.

Subpubický is primarily used in medical, anatomical, and anthropological discussions. It is important to distinguish it from more general terms such as the pubic region or perineum, which describe broader anatomical areas.
