Subluxate is a medical term describing a partial dislocation or misalignment of a joint, where the bones in the joint are displaced but retain some contact with each other. Unlike a complete dislocation, where the joint is fully separated, subluxation involves an incomplete or partial displacement, often resulting in joint instability, pain, and limited movement.

The term originates from Latin, where "sub" means "under" or "less than," and "luxate" refers to dislocation. Subluxations can occur in various joints, including the shoulder, patella, vertebrae, and temporomandibular joint, among others.
