Downstream of the service point is the customer’s internal installation, which includes distribution boards, cabling, protective devices, and the earthing system. The grid operator is generally responsible for the network up to the service point, while the consumer or property owner is responsible for the installation inside the building.

Regulatory and standards context is important for strømtillings. In Norway and similar markets, standards such as NEK 400 govern electrical installations, and grid operators operate under regulatory codes and tariffs. Any work on the service connection or internal installation typically requires licensed electricians, and often formal agreements with the grid company are necessary to establish or modify the connection and supply terms.

Voltage and reliability expectations are part of strømtillings. Typical household supplies are 230 V single-phase and 400 V for three-phase systems, with performance targets for voltage quality, outage duration, and short-circuit levels.
