Strykere is a term used in Scandinavian languages, principally Norwegian and Danish, with several related senses in music and everyday language. Most commonly it denotes the string section of an orchestra or the group of musicians who play bowed string instruments—violins, violas, cellos and double basses. In this musical sense strykere refers both to ensemble sections in orchestral and chamber contexts and, more generally, to performers who use a bow to produce sound.

Etymologically the word derives from verbs meaning “to stroke” or “to draw” (related to the action of bowing), and its musical usage emphasizes the bowing gesture that characterizes these instruments.
