Structuurrituelen is a term used in speculative anthropology and design studies to describe rituals that organize and stabilize social structures and built environments. The word blends structuur (structure) and rituelen (rituals) to foreground how communal practices encode authorities, roles, and routines into physical spaces and everyday sequences.

Conceptually, structuurrituelen refer to recurring ceremonies, rites of passage, and sanctioned routines that produce durable order within a group. They link intangible social meanings with tangible arrangements—such as thresholds, room layouts, access rules, and time-keeping practices—so that people act in ways that reinforce shared expectations.

Core components include: a defined sequence of actions, symbolic objects or scripts, spatial configurations that participants inhabit, and the staging of roles (facilitators, gatekeepers, participants). The rituals may be periodic (seasonal openings) or lifecycle-based (initiations), and they often involve performance, language, and color-coding or other motifs.

Examples in fictional or theoretical communities illustrate how structuurrituelen shape life. A coastal trading village might ritualize harbor access through a morning rite that marks who may trade and who may not, reinforcing hierarchy through space permission. A monastery might regulate occupation of cloisters with seasonal processions and seating orders that preserve contemplative order.
