A strimmer, also known as a string trimmer, weed eater, or brush cutter, is a garden tool used for cutting grass, weeds, and other vegetation. It typically consists of a motor that powers a rotating shaft, at the end of which is a spool of monofilament line. When the strimmer is turned on, the line spins at high speed, cutting through vegetation.

Strimmers come in various power sources, including electric (corded or battery-powered) and gasoline engines. Electric models are generally lighter and quieter, making them suitable for smaller gardens and lighter tasks. Gasoline-powered strimmers offer more power and are better suited for tackling tougher weeds and larger areas.

The cutting line is usually made of nylon, but some models can accommodate thicker lines or even blades for more demanding jobs. The length of the line is automatically fed out from the spool as it wears down or breaks. Safety is important when using a strimmer, as the spinning line can eject debris. Wearing protective eyewear and sturdy footwear is recommended. Strimmers are effective for trimming grass in areas that are difficult to reach with a lawnmower, such as along fences, walls, and around trees.
