Definition: A statehail event is one reporting location within one state, with the observation source and data record tied to that state's jurisdiction. When a hail event crosses borders, attribution to a single state may be based on the first reported location, the density of observations, or meteorological attribution methods; different data producers may apply different rules.

Data and measurement: Statehail data are compiled from state meteorological agencies, national weather service offices, volunteer observing networks, and radar or hail-detection products. Attributes typically include date and time, location (city and state), reported hail size, hail duration, and confidence level of the report. Aggregation methods may align with standard state boundaries and may be updated with retroactive corrections.

Applications: Statehail records support state-level hazard maps, insurance premium modeling, agricultural planning, and climate analyses that require intra-state comparison of hail risk.
