Spërkatjen is the act of applying liquids as a fine spray through nozzles or atomizers, typically performed with spraying equipment. In Albanian usage, the term covers processes where liquids such as water, pesticides, fertilizers, disinfectants, or coatings are dispersed over surfaces or through the air. It is applied across several domains, including agriculture and horticulture, sanitation, pest control, and fire protection.

In agriculture and horticulture, spërkatjen is used to deliver plant treatments and nutrients to foliage or soil. Common implementations include handheld, backpack, or wheeled sprayers, as well as tractor-mounted units and aerial or drone-based systems for larger areas. Irrigation can also employ språkatje methods, particularly sprinkler and spray irrigation, to distribute water more evenly over crops.

Techniques and performance depend on equipment type and target. Calibrating the sprayer, selecting appropriate nozzle types, and controlling droplet size are essential for achieving uniform coverage while minimizing waste and environmental impact. Smaller droplets provide rapid coverage but increase drift risk, whereas larger droplets reduce drift but may require more passes to reach the same level of saturation.
