Spondüloartriit is a group of inflammatory diseases that affect the spine and the sacroiliac joints, which connect the spine to the pelvis. These conditions are characterized by inflammation of the joints, leading to pain, stiffness, and sometimes swelling. While the spine and sacroiliac joints are most commonly involved, other parts of the body can also be affected, including peripheral joints like those in the hands and feet, the eyes, the skin, and the tendons.

There are several types of spondüloartriit, with ankylosing spondylitis being one of the most well-known. Other related conditions include psoriatic arthritis, reactive arthritis, and arthritis associated with inflammatory bowel disease. A common genetic marker, the HLA-B27 gene, is often present in individuals with spondüloartriit, although not everyone with the gene develops the disease.

The exact cause of spondüloartriit is not fully understood, but it is believed to involve a combination of genetic predisposition and environmental triggers. Symptoms can vary widely, but common complaints include lower back pain that is worse in the morning and improves with activity, and stiffness that lasts for more than 30 minutes after waking up. Diagnosis typically involves a combination of medical history, physical examination, imaging studies like X-rays and MRI, and sometimes blood tests. Treatment aims to manage pain and inflammation, prevent joint damage, and maintain physical function, often involving medications and physical therapy.
