Spermatozoitis is a medical term that refers to inflammation of the sperm ducts, also known as the vas deferens or ductus deferens. These are the tubes that carry sperm from the epididymis to the ejaculatory ducts. Inflammation of these structures can cause pain, swelling, and discomfort in the scrotum and groin area.

The causes of spermatozoitis are varied and can include infections, most commonly sexually transmitted infections like gonorrhea or chlamydia. Bacterial infections originating from other parts of the urinary tract can also lead to this condition. Trauma to the genital area or complications from surgery in the pelvic or groin region are other potential contributing factors.

Symptoms may include pain in the testicle or groin, swelling in the scrotum, a feeling of heaviness, and sometimes a discharge from the penis. Difficulty or pain during urination may also be present. In some cases, spermatozoitis can affect fertility by obstructing sperm transport.

Diagnosis typically involves a physical examination, a review of medical history, and potentially diagnostic tests such as urine cultures to identify any infections or ultrasound imaging to assess the condition of the vas deferens. Treatment depends on the underlying cause. If an infection is present, antibiotics are usually prescribed. Pain management through anti-inflammatory medications may also be recommended. In cases where obstruction is a significant issue, further medical or surgical intervention might be considered.
