Sozialpartnerschaft, or social partnership, describes a model of industrial relations in which organized employers and workers cooperate through their representative bodies to regulate wages, working conditions and social policy, primarily within a liberal market economy. The system relies on collective bargaining between employers' associations and trade unions, sectoral and company-level agreements, and often state mediation and legislative framework to maintain industrial peace and macroeconomic stability. The term is especially associated with German-speaking countries, notably Germany, Austria and parts of Switzerland, and is a central element of the broader concept of the social market economy.

Historically, Sozialpartnerschaft has roots in late 19th and early 20th century labor relations, but it gained prominence after World War II when industrial relations systems were redesigned to combine wage moderation, social insurance expansion and consensus-based reform. In Germany, it is closely linked to Tarifautonomie (the freedom of parties to bargain) and Mitbestimmung (co-determination) in large enterprises, as well as the role of works councils. In Austria and Switzerland, a corporatist tradition sustains formal dialogue and policy input by social partners.

Core elements include sector-wide collective agreements that set wages and conditions, negotiated at bilateral level; company-level agreements; consultation on social and labor policy; and, in some cases, cooperative policy-making with the state. While contributing to social cohesion and predictability, critics argue that the approach can entrench established interests, reduce flexibility, and underrepresent non-unionized workers.

Today, Sozialpartnerschaft remains a defining feature of industrial relations in many German-speaking contexts, though its exact form and influence vary with political, economic and European Union developments.
