Skruvhuvudet, often translated as "screw head," is the uppermost part of a screw that serves to receive the turning force applied by a tool. This turning force, known as torque, is what drives the screw into or out of a material. The design of the skruvhuvudet is critical for the type of tool that can be used for installation and removal, and it also influences the screw's holding power and aesthetic appearance.

There are numerous types of skruvhuvuden, each with a distinct recess or drive. Common examples include slotted (flathead), Phillips, Torx (star-shaped), and hex (Allen). The choice of skruvhuvudet is often dictated by the application, the required torque, and the risk of cam-out, where the tool slips out of the recess. For instance, Phillips heads were designed to intentionally cam out under excessive torque to prevent over-tightening, while Torx drives offer much greater resistance to cam-out, allowing for higher torque application. The size and shape of the skruvhuvudet also play a role in how the screw sits on the surface of the material; some heads are designed to sit flush, while others are meant to be proud or countersunk.
