Skautum refers to the global movement of Scouting, a youth organization focused on personal development, outdoor skills, and community service. Originating in the early 20th century, Scouting was founded by Lord Baden-Powell, who drew inspiration from his experiences in the British Army and his book *Scouting for Boys* (1908). The movement emphasizes values such as trustworthiness, loyalty, bravery, and respect, encouraging members to engage in activities like camping, hiking, survival skills, and leadership training.

Scouting operates through a network of local groups called "troops" or "patrols," typically divided by age groups, including Cub Scouts (ages 6–10), Scouts (11–15), Venturers (16–25), and sometimes younger or older branches depending on the country. Members, known as Scouts, participate in structured programs that combine adventure, learning, and service. Key elements include earning badges for skills mastered, attending camps, and completing community service projects.

The World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) and the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) oversee international Scouting, with over 100 million members worldwide. National organizations, such as the Boy Scouts of America, Scouting UK, and the Japanese Scouts, adapt programs to local cultures while maintaining core principles. Scouting also includes sister movements like Girl Guiding, which serves girls and women, and Venture Scouts, which caters to older youth.

Beyond outdoor activities, Scouting promotes character development, citizenship, and global understanding. Many former Scouts credit the movement with shaping their leadership abilities and lifelong values.
