sinkkimalmeista
Sinkkimalmi (zinc ore) refers to minerals from which zinc can be economically extracted. The dominant zinc ore mineral is sphalerite, a zinc sulfide (ZnS). Zinc carbonate minerals such as smithsonite and calamine have historically supplied zinc, while zinc oxide minerals occur as minor ore and alteration products. Most zinc ore forms in hydrothermal veins and replacement deposits and is commonly found with lead ores such as galena and with iron sulfides.
Occurrence and deposits: Zinc ore is mined in many countries; major producers include China, Australia, Peru,
Processing and use: After mining, ore is crushed, milled, and processed by flotation to produce a zinc
Environmental and historical notes: Zinc mining and smelting can have environmental impacts, including sulfur dioxide emissions
