singularism

Singularism is a term used in philosophy, theology, and futurism to denote an emphasis on or commitment to a single, indivisible principle, event, or entity. It is not tied to a single formal doctrine, and there is no universally accepted definition, so the term functions mainly as a descriptive label in speculative or interdisciplinary discussions.

In philosophy, singularism is sometimes described as a form of monism that asserts the primacy of a single ontological ground. Proponents may argue that reality reduces to one fundamental substance, law, or principle, while opponents treat the idea as insufficiently specified to be a stand-alone theory and contrast it with pluralist or dualist positions.

In futurism and technology discourse, singularism is sometimes used to denote belief in a coming technological singularity—a point of irreversible, rapid change driven by artificial intelligence or other breakthroughs. Adherents emphasize planning, governance, and ethical frameworks to steer such transformations, while critics warn of uncertainty and deterministic assumptions.

In theology or metaphysical spirituality, singularism can denote a focus on the singular divine nature or on a single ultimate reality, often within monotheist frameworks. The term is not standard within established creeds and is used mainly in contemporary or exploratory writings.

In science and mathematics, singularism may describe attention to singularities—points where mathematical models or physical theories cease to apply. Discussions in this sense address the limits of current theories and the need for new models or interpretive strategies.
