Similia is a Latin word meaning "like" or "similar." In medicine, it is most notably associated with the principle of homeopathy, which is summarized by the phrase "similia similibus curentur," meaning "like cures like." This principle suggests that a substance which causes symptoms in a healthy person can be used to treat similar symptoms in a sick person.

The concept of treating like with like has roots in ancient healing practices. However, it was codified into a system of medicine by German physician Samuel Hahnemann in the late 18th century. Hahnemann developed a detailed system of homeopathic remedies, often derived from plants, minerals, and animal substances, which are then prepared through a process of serial dilution and succussion (vigorous shaking).
