A sidestream system is a method of diverting a portion of a fluid flow for analysis, treatment, or disposal, while the main flow continues. This technique is commonly employed in industrial processes, water treatment facilities, and HVAC systems. In industrial settings, a sidestream might be used to continuously monitor the quality of a chemical reaction or to remove impurities from a process stream. For instance, in cooling towers, a small fraction of the circulating water is often taken off as a sidestream to remove dissolved solids and prevent scaling.
In HVAC systems, particularly those with humidification or dehumidification components, a sidestream can be used to
