In English-language technical writing the term is sometimes rendered as sideshift or side shift, though the form sideskift appears most often in Norwegian or Danish sources.

In mechanical engineering and manufacturing, a sideskift describes an intentional lateral movement used for alignment, assembly, or adjustment. It is typically implemented through sliding bearings, linear guides, cam mechanisms, or hydraulic actuators.
