Sidebinding refers to a method of securing pages in a document where the binding runs along the side edge, as opposed to the spine. This is commonly seen in certain types of notebooks, planners, and some older or specialized bookbinding techniques. In sidebinding, the pages are typically punched with holes along one side, and then thread, wire, or plastic coils are inserted through these holes to hold the pages together.

This binding style allows a document to lay relatively flat when opened, especially if a spiral or comb binding is used along the side. However, it can sometimes be less durable than traditional spine binding, as the pages are more exposed to wear and tear along the edge. Sidebinding is often chosen for its practicality and the ability to easily flip pages. It is distinct from methods like saddle-stitching or perfect binding, which operate on the spine of the book. The term can also occasionally refer to an informal method of assembling documents by attaching pages sequentially down one side.
