Shkencëtari denotes a person who practices science or conducts scientific research in Albanian. The more common term in contemporary Albanian is shkencëtar, while shkencëtari appears in some dialects and historical usage. In everyday language, both refer to someone who engages in scientific work.

Shkencëtarët work in laboratories, field studies, or theoretical settings, formulating hypotheses, designing experiments, collecting and analyzing data, and communicating findings through reports and publications. Their activities span the discovery of new knowledge, the testing of ideas, and the dissemination of results to the scientific community and society at large.

Education typically frames the role. A shkencëtari holds a university degree in a scientific field, with advanced study often culminating in a master's or doctoral degree. Training emphasizes the scientific method, critical thinking, and ethical standards, with ongoing professional development common throughout a career.

Fields and specializations are diverse. The term covers natural sciences, formal (mathematical) sciences, social sciences, and applied sciences. Shkencëtarët may specialize in areas such as physics, chemistry, biology, geology, computer science, psychology, economics, or engineering, among others, often contributing to academia, industry, or government research.

Impact and culture emphasize collaboration and transparency. Scientists collaborate across borders, publish in peer-reviewed journals, and rely on reproducibility and rigorous methods.
