A sensoorsel typically includes a sensor front-end, a power source or energy-harvesting element, a microcontroller or DSP, and a wireless transceiver. Sizes range from tens to hundreds of micrometers, enabling dense sensor arrays; materials emphasize biocompatibility and environmental stability. Some designs harvest energy from body heat, motion, or light.

Applications include medical diagnostics and neural interfaces, such as mapping tissue chemistry or ingestible capsules, wearables and smart textiles for distributed temperature or chemical sensing, and industrial sensing for corrosion, leaks, or structural health monitoring with high spatial resolution.
