Application involves substrate preparation, including cleaning, repairing cracks, and applying a suitable primer to improve bond. The material is mixed with water or appropriate liquid hardeners to achieve a pourable consistency, then poured or pumped onto the substrate. It flows under gravity, self-leveling to a nearly uniform thickness. Some systems require light troweling or rolling to remove entrapped air and achieve the desired surface finish. Curing times vary by product and environment but generally allow for subsequent floor coverings once the surface has reached sufficient hardness.

Advantages of selbstnivellierende systems include faster installation, reduced need for hand tooling, and the ability to create a very smooth base suitable for complex layouts or underfloor heating. Limitations include strict substrate preparation, reliance on correct environmental conditions, potential moisture sensitivity for some formulations, and the need for proper priming and ventilation during curing.
