Sektorfelt is a term used in the Dutch industrial textile sector to describe a class of felt materials designed for sector‑specific applications in machinery, equipment and infrastructure. It is typically engineered to provide cushioning, sealing, vibration damping, filtration or insulation across different parts of a production line, hence its emphasis on “sector” suitability.

Sektorfelt can be made from natural fibers (such as wool) or synthetic fibers (such as polyester, nylon or polypropylene), or from blends. Production methods include needle-punching and thermo-bonding, sometimes with coatings or laminates to improve durability, chemical resistance or oil resistance. The materials are offered in a range of thicknesses, commonly from 1 to 10 millimeters, and in varying densities to meet stiffness and resilience requirements.

Key properties vary with composition but typically include good compressive strength and recovery, dimensional stability, moderate to low moisture absorption, and resistance to wear and temperatures appropriate to its intended sector. Some variants are treated for chemical resistance, oil resistance or antimicrobial properties.

Typical applications include cushioning and vibration isolation in machine housings and support structures, gaskets and seals between components, filtration media for air or liquids in industrial systems, insulation and lining in packaging or transport, and acoustic panels in facilities.

Sektorfelt is produced by a number of European manufacturers and is often customized to fit a specific sector’s standards. It may be specified by thickness, density, fiber content and optional coatings, with quality assessed through tests for compression set, thickness recovery, abrasion resistance and chemical compatibility.
