Seerumeja are cosmetic products designed to deliver high concentrations of active ingredients to the skin. In Finnish, seerumi means serum, and seerumeja is the plural. Serums are usually water- or silicone-based and have a lighter texture than moisturizers, enabling them to penetrate more quickly. They are used to address specific concerns such as hydration, brightness, aging, and blemishes.

Common types include hydrating serums (hyaluronic acid), antioxidant serums (vitamin C, vitamin E), anti-aging or retinoid serums, brightening serums (niacinamide, kojic acid), and acne-targeting serums (salicylic acid, azelaic acid).

Application is typically after cleansing (and toning). A few drops are applied to the face and neck, allowed to absorb, and then followed by moisturizer. The specific routine depends on the product, but vitamin C serums are commonly used in the daytime, while retinoid serums are often used at night; sunscreen is recommended during the day when actives increase sun sensitivity.

Safety and storage considerations include patch testing new serums to check for irritation or allergy and discontinuing use if adverse reactions occur. Store serums away from direct sunlight and heat. Many serums have a shelf life of about 6 to 12 months after opening, though exact durations vary by formula.
