Sebgyógyítási, often translated as wound healing, is the natural biological process by which damaged tissue in the body is repaired. This complex process involves a series of coordinated cellular and molecular events aimed at restoring the integrity of the skin and underlying tissues. The stages of wound healing are generally categorized into three overlapping phases: inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling.

The inflammatory phase begins immediately after injury and involves the body's immune response. Blood vessels constrict to control bleeding, followed by vasodilation to allow immune cells, such as neutrophils and macrophages, to reach the wound site. These cells clear debris, dead tissue, and bacteria, initiating the healing process.

The proliferative phase follows inflammation and is characterized by the formation of new tissue. Fibroblasts produce collagen, a key structural protein, which forms a scaffold for new cells. Granulation tissue, a bright red, granular substance, fills the wound bed. Epithelial cells migrate across the surface of the wound to cover it, a process known as re-epithelialization. Angiogenesis, the formation of new blood vessels, also occurs to supply the regenerating tissue with oxygen and nutrients.

The final phase is remodeling, which can last for months or even years. During this phase, collagen is reorganized and strengthened, leading to the formation of a scar. The scar tissue gradually matures, becoming less red and more pliable. While scar tissue may not regain the full strength or function of the original tissue, it provides a stable cover. Factors such as infection, poor nutrition, and certain medical conditions can impair the wound healing process.
