Schuifbalken, also known as scrollbars, are graphical user interface elements that allow users to navigate content that extends beyond the visible area of a window or display. They are commonly found in applications and web pages when a document, image, or list is too large to fit entirely within its container.

There are typically two types of scrollbars: a vertical scrollbar, used for scrolling up and down, and a horizontal scrollbar, used for scrolling left and right. Each scrollbar consists of a track, a thumb (or handle), and often arrow buttons at either end. The track represents the entire scrollable range of content, while the thumb's position indicates the current view within that range. The size of the thumb is often proportional to the amount of content currently visible.

Users interact with scrollbars by clicking and dragging the thumb, clicking on the track to jump a page at a time, or clicking the arrow buttons to move content incrementally. Many modern interfaces also support scrolling via mouse wheels, touch gestures on trackpads or touchscreens, which can often substitute for direct scrollbar interaction.
