Probability scores are fundamental in fields such as statistics, machine learning, and decision theory. A higher score for a specific class suggests a greater confidence that the input belongs to that class. This allows for more nuanced decision-making than simply assigning a binary label.

These scores can be derived through various methods. Empirical probability, on the other hand, is based on observed frequencies from experiments or data. Bayesian inference provides another framework for updating probability scores as new evidence becomes available.

Interpreting probability scores requires understanding the context and the method by which they were generated. A probability score of 0.7, for example, means that an event is expected to occur 70% of the time if the underlying process were repeated many times. While a score of 0.7 indicates a higher likelihood than 0.5, it does not guarantee that the event will happen in any single instance.
