Sannsynlighetsskårer, often translated as probability scores, are numerical values representing the likelihood of a particular event occurring. These scores are typically expressed on a scale from 0 to 1, where 0 indicates an impossible event and 1 indicates a certain event. In many contexts, probabilities are also expressed as percentages, ranging from 0% to 100%.

Probability scores are fundamental in fields such as statistics, machine learning, and decision theory. In machine learning, for instance, a classification model might output a probability score for each possible class. A higher score for a specific class suggests a greater confidence that the input belongs to that class. This allows for more nuanced decision-making than simply assigning a binary label.

These scores can be derived through various methods. Theoretical probability is calculated based on the underlying assumptions of an event, such as the probability of rolling a specific number on a fair die. Empirical probability, on the other hand, is based on observed frequencies from experiments or data. Bayesian inference provides another framework for updating probability scores as new evidence becomes available.

Interpreting probability scores requires understanding the context and the method by which they were generated. A probability score of 0.7, for example, means that an event is expected to occur 70% of the time if the underlying process were repeated many times. While a score of 0.7 indicates a higher likelihood than 0.5, it does not guarantee that the event will happen in any single instance.
