saippuapohjaiset
Saippuapohjaiset, literally “soap‑based”, refer to cleaning products and detergents in which sodium or potassium salts of fatty acids constitute the primary active ingredient. The term is used mainly in Finnish literature on household cleaning chemistry, hygiene technology, and environmental studies. Soap is produced by saponification, the neutralisation of a fat or oil with a strong base such as sodium hydroxide. The resulting alkali salts are amphiphilic molecules that lower the surface tension of water and emulsify oils and greases, allowing them to be rinsed away.
In domestic and industrial contexts, saippuapohjaiset are employed for laundering fabrics, dish washing, and surface cleaning.
