Sähköjohtavuus, often referred to by its Finnish term "sähköjohtavuutensa," is a measure of a material's ability to conduct electric current. It is the reciprocal of electrical resistivity, meaning a highly conductive material has low resistivity and vice versa. The unit of sähköjohtavuus is siemens per meter (S/m). Materials with high sähköjohtavuus, such as metals like copper and silver, allow electric charge to flow easily through them with minimal resistance. This is due to the presence of free electrons in their atomic structure that can move readily when an electric field is applied.

Conversely, materials with low sähköjohtavuus, known as electrical insulators, resist the flow of electric current. Examples include rubber, glass, and plastics. These materials have tightly bound electrons that do not move freely. Semiconductors, like silicon and germanium, exhibit intermediate sähköjohtavuus, which can be altered by factors such as temperature or the addition of impurities, making them crucial components in electronic devices. The concept of sähköjohtavuus is fundamental in understanding electrical circuits, material science, and the design of electrical and electronic equipment.
