Rysów is a mountain peak located in the High Tatras, a range within the Eastern Carpathians. Its summit stands at 2,503 meters (8,212 feet) above sea level, making it one of the highest peaks in Poland. The mountain straddles the border between Poland and Slovakia, with the Polish side of the summit being the highest point in the country.

The peak is characterized by its rugged, rocky terrain and dramatic cliffs. It is a popular destination for experienced mountaineers and hikers due to its challenging ascents and stunning panoramic views of the surrounding Tatra landscape. Several hiking trails lead to the summit, varying in difficulty.

The most common route from the Polish side begins from the Morskie Oko lake, a large glacial lake at the foot of the mountain. This route involves a significant climb and exposure to the elements. On the Slovakian side, access is often from the Popradské Pleso area.

Rysy has three summits, with the northwestern summit being the highest. The name "Rysy" is derived from the Polish word for "scratches" or "scars," likely referring to the appearance of the mountain's steep, weathered slopes. The mountain is composed primarily of granite.

Due to its elevation and exposure, weather conditions on Rysy can change rapidly, and it is only recommended for those with proper equipment and experience, particularly outside of the summer months. Avalanches are a risk in winter and spring.
