Roiskeveden is a term used to describe wash water or runoff water that has been in contact with surfaces or processes and contains contaminants such as oils, greases, detergents, cement dust, metals, and other chemicals. It commonly arises from activities where water is used to clean equipment, vehicles, or facilities, or from stormwater that becomes contaminated by industrial operations.

Common sources include construction sites (concrete and plaster washing), automotive and fleet cleaning, metal finishing and painting, food processing where sanitizers and wash waters are used, and industrial or commercial premises with paved surfaces that collect pollutants. The resulting water often contains suspended solids, hydrocarbons, detergents, and trace metals, which can pose environmental and public health risks if released untreated.

Environmental impact and regulation: Roiskeveden can degrade aquatic ecosystems, reduce oxygen levels, and contaminate groundwater if discharged untreated. Regulations in many jurisdictions require capturing and treating roiskeveden before it enters the sewer system or the environment. Permit conditions typically set limits on oil content, chemical oxygen demand (COD) or biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), turbidity, and sometimes specific contaminants.

Treatment and management: On-site management emphasizes source control and reuse where possible. Treatment trains commonly include oil–water separators, sedimentation basins, flotation or coalescence units, filtration, and, for tougher contaminants, biological treatment or constructed wetlands. Some roiskeveden is collected for reuse after treatment, reducing fresh-water consumption. If discharge is permitted, it is usually routed to a municipal wastewater treatment plant or a dedicated treatment facility that meets local standards.
